The Éclair Noiseless Portable Reflex, introduced around 1960, was the camera that made the French New Wave possible. Its quiet operation allowed synchronous sound recording without a blimp, and its lightweight design freed filmmakers like Jean-Luc Godard and Jean Rouch to shoot handheld in real locations. The NPR's 16mm format became synonymous with cinéma vérité and documentary realism.
RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
Each effect is calibrated to match the real optical and chemical characteristics of the Eclair NPR.
