By the 1960s, 16mm film projectors were ubiquitous in schools, churches, and community centers, bringing educational films, newsreels, and entertainment to audiences before the video age. The characteristic look of a projected 16mm print — warm color shifts, visible splices, gate weave, and accumulated dust and scratches — evokes a specific era of shared cinematic experience that predated home video.
RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
Each effect is calibrated to match the real optical and chemical characteristics of the 16mm Film Projector.
