About the Kodak HIE

Kodak High-Speed Infrared (HIE) film, produced from 1960 until its discontinuation in 2007, captured near-infrared wavelengths invisible to the human eye. Vegetation appeared brilliant white, skies turned almost black, and skin took on an ethereal, luminous quality. The film's extreme sensitivity required careful handling — it had to be loaded and unloaded in complete darkness — but its surreal, dreamlike results made it a favorite for fine-art and experimental photography.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
