About the Bolex H16

Manufactured by Paillard-Bolex starting in 1935, the H16 became the most iconic 16mm film camera ever made. Its spring-wound motor, interchangeable C-mount lenses, and rock-solid Swiss engineering made it the tool of choice for documentary filmmakers, students, and experimental artists for over 50 years. The H16's role in independent and avant-garde cinema — from Maya Deren to Stan Brakhage — cemented its place in film history.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
