HISTORY

About the Thermal Printer

Thermal printing technology, used in receipt printers and fax machines since the 1970s, creates images by selectively heating thermochromic paper. The result is a 1-bit (black or white) image with visible dithering patterns, uneven density, and a tendency to fade over time. RetroCam recreates this distinctive receipt-printer aesthetic as a creative photographic effect.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
