HISTORY

About the Film Negative (C-41)

The C-41 process, introduced by Kodak in 1972, standardized color negative film development and remains the global standard today. The characteristic look of an unprinted color negative — orange mask, inverted colors, and visible edge markings — has become an aesthetic in its own right. Shooting 'straight negative' without color correction reveals the raw chemical reality of the photographic process.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
