By 2003, webcams like the Logitech QuickCam had become standard computer peripherals, enabling video chat, livestreaming, and the earliest days of online video content. Their VGA resolution, poor low-light performance, and Auto White Balance struggles created a distinctive lo-fi aesthetic. The early webcam look — noisy, slightly washed out, with visible compression artifacts — defines an era of early internet culture.
RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
Each effect is calibrated to match the real optical and chemical characteristics of the Webcam (2003).
