About the Voigtländer Petzval

Designed by Joseph Petzval and manufactured by Voigtländer in 1841, the Petzval lens was the first photographic objective computed using mathematical optics. At f/3.6 it was roughly 16 times faster than the landscape lenses of the day, making portrait photography practical. Its signature field curvature creates a swirly bokeh effect that remains highly sought after by portrait photographers.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
