HISTORY

About the Cyanotype Print

Invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, the cyanotype process uses iron salts and UV light to produce distinctive Prussian blue prints. Anna Atkins used it to create the first book illustrated with photographic images — her botanical studies of British algae. The process remains popular today for its simplicity and the striking blue-and-white aesthetic.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
