About the Daguerreotype

Invented by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre and publicly announced in 1839, the daguerreotype was the first commercially successful photographic process. Each image was a unique, mirror-like plate of silver-coated copper exposed to iodine vapor and developed with mercury fumes. Exposure times dropped from minutes to seconds as the chemistry improved, making portraiture practical by the early 1840s.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
