HISTORY

About the Leica I

Designed by Oskar Barnack and released by Leitz in 1925, the Leica I was the first commercially successful 35mm still camera. Barnack repurposed 35mm cinema film in a compact body with a precision Elmar 50mm f/3.5 lens, creating a format that would dominate photography for the next 75 years. The Leica made candid, handheld photography possible and launched the golden age of photojournalism.

RetroCam recreates this look using real optical data: color temperature curves, aberration profiles, grain structure, and tonal response. The result is a live camera effect that feels authentic, not just a filter slapped on top.
